Letters to the Editor

Written in “Passage Maker, The Trawler & Ocean Motorboat Magazine”, by David Condon, Kirkland, Washington

“In the December issue, Bob Lane’s Crunch’ featured repair work done by Seattle Yacht Service. The story really caught my eye. We own a 36-foot 1978 Grand Mariner, which uses the same hull as the Albin 36. The original swim platform on our trawler was 17 inches wide. But after many years of able service, and supporting a 10-foot dinghy, it was showing its age. We even had concerns about its structural integrity. It was time to replace the platform!

When we ordered the new swim platform, we increased its size from 17 inches to a 30-inch width. Then we had the new platform delivered to Seattle Yacht Services for installation on our boat.
The product we received from Butler Marine is one of the finest pieces of teak work I have ever seen. Seattle Yacht Services did a great job fitting the platform to our boat, even fabricating new heavy-duty stainless steel supports.

The result of the Butler Marine product and installation by Seattle Yacht Services was wonderful. We now have a large (almost dock-like) swimstep that is incredibly strong and looks simply beautiful.

For folks with older trawlers needing a new platform, Butler Marine is really a great manufacturer. And for folks living in the Seattle area, I think Seattle Yacht Service did an outstanding job of installation and fabrication.
As most boat owners know, it’s hard to locate good teak work these days, as well as qualified boat yards that can work with it. We lucked out and found both.”
